KUALA LUMPUR: Global Process Systems (GPS), a regional process package provider, and Wenmax Sdn Bhd, a Petronas-licensed company for the supply of products and services to the local oil and gas market, will build up their working partnership over the long haul.
Wenmax and GPS started working together in early 2011 to pursue projects in the local arena and they want to continue maximising opportunities from new oil and gas projects in Malaysia.
“GPS and Wenmax first signed a strategic partnership agreement in April 2011 and have been actively pursuing working together ever since,” a GPS spokesperson told Business Times.
The companies recently secured a RM33 million contract to provide an instrument gas skid for oil and gas operator Hess Corp to be located on the Kamelia-A wellhead platform in the North Malay Basin offshore Peninsular Malaysia.
The contract was awarded by SapuraKencana Petroleum, which is the main contractor to Hess Corp to Wenmax, which is licensed by Petronas to provide such services with GPS as its principal.
“The project will be executed by GPS with Wenmax’s assistance,” the spokesperson said.
Work on the instrument gas skid project is already under way and it is due for completion in October 2012.
“The entire skid is designed to Hess’s specifications for use in a hazardous area offshore and will be fabricated in duplex and stainless steel materials,” the spokesperson said.
On June 21, Petronas signed three main contracts with Petronas Carigali and Hess Exploration and Production Malaysia B.V. for a new integrated gas development in the North Malay Basin.
The first contract is the amended production sharing contract (PSC) for offshore Block PM302, while the other two contracts are new exploration PSCs for Blocks PM325 and PM326B, adjacent to Block PM302.
All the three PSCs are on a 50:50 equity split between Petronas Carigali, Hess Exploration and Production Malaysia. Petronas expects US$2.5 billion (RM7.78 billion) to be invested in the North Malay Basin project over the next five years.
The GPS-Wenmax partnership also had won a RM50 million order for a major water injection package at a production platform offshore Malaysia.
“This project was successfully completed recently and loaded out for final installation and commissioning offshore,” GPS said in a statement made available to Business Times.
Wenmax more recently secured three contracts from SapuraKencana for the Serendah project, located offshore Sarawak.
“The project scope involves the complete supply of a fuel gas conditioning package, produced water treatment package and deaerator column and vacuum pump skid,” the company said.
The Serendah development is being handled by Murphy Sarawak Oil Co Ltd under its PSC with Petronas.
Wenmax managing director Datuk Aziz Eusoff said GPS’ expertise in the safe delivery of complex modular process equipment has been an important factor in helping Wenmax to secure contracts with the leading operators in Malaysia.
