Trans Resources, Ahmad Zaki unit and Apex Comm get RM563mil jobs
PETALING JAYA: Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has awarded another three station packages for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang project with a value of RM563mil, holding up its momentum to hand out all 85 construction contracts by the end of this year.
In a statement, the entity overseeing the development of the transit system said it had awarded Trans Resources Corp Sdn Bhd, Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd’s unit and Apex Communication Sdn Bhd after a sitting of the One-Stop Procurement Committee (OSPC) chaired by the Finance Second Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah in Putrajaya.
The OSPC awarded Trans Resources Corp Package S1, valued at RM283.7mil, to build the elevated stations and other associated works at Sungai Buloh, Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh and Kota Damansara.
Azhar: ‘These awards were the best evaluated bids from the shortlisted group.’
Prior to this, Trans Resources had been the successful bidder for Package DPT1 for the construction and completion of the Sungai Buloh maintenance depot, administrative building, external and other associated works for a contract price of RM459mil.
Ahmad Zaki’s subsidiary, Ahmad Zaki Sdn Bhd, secured the RM174.6mil Package S6 for the construction of three elevated stations Taman Suntex, Taman Cuepacs and Bandar Tun Hussein Onn together with other associated works.
The three stations will be planted along the viaduct between Plaza Phoenix and Bandar Tun Hussein Onn which Ahmad Zaki had undertaken earlier this year valued at RM764mil.
Package S7 for the construction of the Balakong and Taman Koperasi was awarded to Apex Communication for RM104.7mil.
MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said in the statement: “MRT Corp’s OSPC has evaluated the submissions, and these awards were the best evaluated bids from the shortlisted group. With these awards, the project moves along.”
He expects the remaining 45 of the total 85 packages to be awarded before the year ends.
A construction sector analyst said that the awards for Trans Resources and Ahmad Zaki made a “pleasant surprise” as the jobs would increase both groups’ contract values notably from RM459mil and RM764mil to RM743mil and RM939mil respectively.
Sector analysts noted that the contracts next in line would be the remaining viaduct guideway packages V2, V3 and V8. Package V8 should be awarded within this month.
Reports have pointed to Malaysia Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) as a potential candidate for upcoming MRT jobs.
If MRCB secured an MRT contract, it will be its first railway-related job this year as it last won a RM1.33bil contract for the Ampang light rail transit extension project in August 2011.
The viaduct guideways have so far been awarded to Ahmad Zaki, Mudajaya Group Bhd, IJM Corp Bhd, Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd, Gadang Holdings Bhd, MTD Construction Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Muhibbah Perniagaan & Pembinaan Sdn Bhd.
